About the song:
The song was originally sung by
B. J. Thomas but gained tremendous popularity when sang by Elvis Presley Other singers tried different versions of the song as well but the one sang by Willie Nelson won him
Grammy awards. Although the song gained popularity among song lovers after versions by Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson, it actually was immensely popular among musicians which is evident by many versions tried by them.

Song: Always on my mind
Singer: Willie Nelson
Writer: Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson

Storyline: One powerful aspect of the song was its lyrics. The growing popularity of the song over time vouches for that fact. While talking about the story of the song, Wayne Carson gave some insight into the beautiful lyrics. "In this case, ‘Always On My Mind’ happens to be one of those things that, universally, everybody on the planet has been there, you know. And it struck all at one time. Everybody touched base with that one. It was just magic that it was so simple and so right on the button" said Wayne in an interview with Parade.

The way the three writers came together to write the song was nothing short of amazing. Tip Smallman, the producer of the original song, wanted a bridge in the song to connect the thought better. Wayne went to the producer's personal office started playing with the piano to find the dots. He was later joined by John who was wandering around and Mark just came by to pick up his mail. They spent hours in perfecting it and at one point, they knew they have the masterpiece.

How Willie connected to the song is pretty understandable. According to Rolling Stone, Willie Nelson is always been connected. In fact, this song may have been one inspiration for his life long attempt to legalize cannabis.
